Yumia is an iPhone app for logging meals and tracking weight. It was designed to work without an account and to keep your data on your device. This page explains, in plain language, which data exists, where it is, who can see it, and how to delete it.
In short
- No account, no password, no e-mail address requested.
- Your meals, goals, weigh-ins and settings are stored on your iPhone only.
- Apple Health data (weight, resting and active energy, steps, workouts) is read with your permission and is never sent to a server.
- Meal photos and descriptions only leave your phone if you enable AI analysis; they then go through the Yumia server and on to Anthropic (Claude), without being stored.
- No analytics tools, no ads, no selling of data.
Who is responsible
Yumia is published by Nekketsu — Samantha Gonzalez, sole trader (entrepreneur individuel), SIRET 845 228 105 00043, 2 rue de l’Église, 60490 Hainvillers, France, who can be reached at support@helloyumia.app and is the data controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The helloyumia.app website and its server are hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, United States.
No account
Yumia does not ask you to create an account, a password, an e-mail address or a phone number. We do not know who you are and we do not need to.
Data stored on your iPhone
The following information is saved in the app’s private storage, on your device only:
- The meals you log (foods, quantities, calories, protein, carbs, fat, time).
- Your goals (calories, macros, target weight) and your profile (age, height, sex, activity level) if you fill them in.
- Weigh-ins entered in the app and the weight history displayed.
- Your settings (language, units, whether exercise counts, whether AI analysis is enabled).
This data is not sent to Yumia or to anyone else. It may be included in your iPhone’s iCloud or iTunes backup if you have those backups enabled; backups are managed by Apple under its own terms.
Apple Health (HealthKit)
If you allow it, Yumia reads from Apple Health your weight, your resting and active energy (calories burned), your steps, your exercise minutes and your workouts, whichever app or watch recorded them; during a workout it also reads the calories and heart rate measured by your watch. Yumia writes to Apple Health your weight when you enter it yourself, and the workouts you do with Yumia.
Data from Apple Health stays on your iPhone. It is never sent to a server, never used for advertising or marketing, never shared with third parties and never sold. It is used only to display your numbers and to compute your goal suggestions, locally.
You can withdraw these permissions at any time in Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Yumia.
The Yumia app for Apple Watch saves your workouts to Apple Health, like the Workout app, and shares them with Yumia on your iPhone. Nothing goes through a server.
AI analysis (photos and descriptions)
Two ways of logging a meal use artificial intelligence: a photo of a dish and a one-sentence description. This feature stays off until you enable it.
When you use it, the photo or text is sent to the Yumia server, which passes it to Anthropic, PBC (United States), the company that provides the Claude AI model, to obtain an estimate of calories and macronutrients. The estimate is returned to you and you can correct it before saving.
The Yumia server keeps neither the photo, nor the text, nor the result: they are processed in memory and then discarded. The data sent is not used to train AI models. Processing by Anthropic is governed by its commercial terms, which exclude training on customer data. Avoid including faces, documents or personal information in the photos you send.
Open Food Facts (search and barcodes)
When you search for a product or scan a barcode, Yumia queries Open Food Facts, a collaborative open database run by the non-profit Open Food Facts (France). Only the words you type or the barcode scanned are sent, along with the usual technical information of an internet request (IP address, device type). No data from your log or from Apple Health is transmitted.
Anonymous identifier and the free analysis limit
To count the free AI analyses of each day, Yumia generates on your iPhone a random identifier that contains no information about you and is not linked to any account. It is sent to the Yumia server with each analysis request, solely to apply this limit. Deleting the app deletes this identifier.
In-app purchases (coming later)
A Premium offer may later be made available as an in-app purchase. Payment will be handled entirely by Apple through the App Store (StoreKit): Yumia neither sees nor stores your payment details. Yumia only receives from Apple the confirmation that the subscription is active, in order to unlock the corresponding features.
What Yumia does not do
- No audience measurement or tracking tools (no analytics SDK).
- No advertising and no ad networks.
- No selling or sharing of your data for commercial purposes.
- No collection of contacts, or of photos other than the ones you choose to analyse. During an outdoor workout, if you allow it, your iPhone’s location is used to measure distance and pace: it stays on the iPhone, is never sent and is not kept; only the distance is saved with the workout.
Crash reports
If your iPhone is set to share analytics with developers (Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements), Apple may pass us anonymised crash reports. They do not contain the contents of your log.
Your rights
Because your data is on your device, you keep direct control of it: you can view, edit and delete it in the app. To delete everything, uninstall the app. Data written to Apple Health is managed from the Health app.
You also have the rights provided by the GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, objection, portability). Since we hold no data that identifies you, we will generally be unable to exercise them on your behalf, but you can write to support@helloyumia.app with any question. You may also contact your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL, www.cnil.fr).
Children
Yumia is not intended for children under 16 and does not knowingly collect any data about them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with its update date. Significant changes will be flagged in the app.
